2 February 2010 - Media speculation & rumour reporting inaccurate
East Londonderry MP Gregory Campbell MP said,
“There has been considerable media interest in and comment upon, the current talks process. This is an obvious development but over the past few weeks as the speculation has increased so has the inaccurate reporting.
Each week the DUP Assembly Group meets and on many occasions has votes, there is, as in every Party, a healthy debate over a wide range of issues.
Several weeks ago some reporters speculated that some 90% of the Assembly Group wanted to proceed; now they are reporting that 60% wanted to move ahead. In order to try and justify their inaccurate reporting of gossip and rumour some are now reporting that this proves there has been a change of mood, rather than they either got it right initially and wrong now, vice versa, or just admit the real truth which is that they have been wrong on both occasions.
The Party is united in it's determination to get the best deal for not just the Unionist community and of course for Northern Ireland as a whole, but to ensure that it is durable deal, that remains our focus.”
