REDEDICATION OF THE LONDONDERRY BRANCH HEADQUARTERS
The rededication of the Londonderry Branch Headquarters took place on Thursday 29 May 2008. The rededication cermemony was conducted by Rt Hon Dr Ian Paisley MP MLA accompanied by the incoming leader of the Democratic Unionist Party and the Rt Hon Peter Robinson MP MLA.
Dr Ian Paisley dedicated the meeting room at the party's Londonderry HQ in memory of Mr Hay's mother Anna Margaret, and a plaque was unveiled in memory of Will Hamilton, one of the party's most dedicated supporters in Londonderry.
The Mayor of Londonderry Alderman Drew Thompson presented both Dr Paisley and Mr Robinson with a glass crystal gift and Baroness Paisley was presented with a bouquet of flowers from Mrs Joan Baggley, a long serving member of the branch.
Speaking to the local press before the event the Chairman of the Londonderry Branch and Stormont Speaker William Hay said:
"The service promised to be a historical
evening.
It truly is the end of an era both for the party and for Northern Ireland
as a whole. We are very pleased Dr Paisley will perform one of his last
official engagements as leader of the party here in Londonderry.
Mr Hay said it was a fitting tribute to both that Dr Paisley would preside
over the dedications."
